In past models, the Colorado featured the base L2R Turbo engine, generating 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. While it was a solid option, it didn’t offer the same power and towing capabilities as the TurboMax. The L2R was standard in entry-level trims like the WT (Work Truck) and LT, providing a lower-cost option for buyers. However, demand for the base engine was relatively low, prompting Chevrolet to phase it out.

By focusing on the TurboMax engine, Chevrolet enhances the towing and payload capacities of the 2025 Colorado. With the Advanced Trailering package, the truck now offers a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds, a significant improvement over the 3,500 pounds previously available with the L2R engine. Payload capacity has also increased from 1,490 pounds to 1,710 pounds.

The TurboMax engine, previously named the High Output engine, was rebranded starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and has now made its way into the 2025 Colorado and its GMC siblings, the Canyon and Sierra 1500. This engine isn’t just powerful—it’s versatile and ideal for a range of tasks, whether you're using the Colorado for work or play.

For 2025, Chevrolet’s decision to focus on the TurboMax simplifies the buying process while delivering top-tier performance in all trims, including the WT and LT, which are the backbone of the Colorado lineup. The fewer choices ensure that every Colorado buyer gets the power and capability needed for towing, hauling, and off-road adventures.

This streamlining marks a turning point for the Chevy Colorado, positioning it as a more focused and powerful midsize truck in a competitive market. By offering just one engine, Chevrolet makes the decision-making process easier for buyers, while the TurboMax guarantees high performance and improved capacities.

Whether you're looking for a workhorse for towing or a powerful, reliable midsize truck for your everyday needs, the 2025 Chevy Colorado has you covered with the TurboMax engine as the standard.
